Friends, when I was a senior in college, my brother Sean killed himself. He was 35 years old.
He left behind his parents, his siblings, his friends, and his two bright and fantastic children that my family adores.

If you are feeling depressed, please know you are NOT alone. We all struggle sometimes, but please know that you always have somewhere to turn. As Jenny the Bloggess says:
But for today let’s talk about the positives. Let’s talk about why
we’re still here. Let’s talk about the words that help us get through.
Let’s talk about the pictures and places and songs that saved us,
because maybe they can save others.
The words I remember to get me through hard times:
“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” – CS Lewis
Much love and many hugs to all of you,
Meg

Hugs. I don't know what else to say... but thanks for posting about such a personal topic. I've got plenty of family and friends with mental health issues, ranging from anxiety to depression to self-harm, and I firmly believe that talking about it and being honest is the most important thing we can do to create an environment where people feel entitled to get the help they need.
ReplyDeleteAgain, hugs to you and your family!
Your courage leaves me breathless. ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your brother. My dad killed himself in 1991, and my son's girlfriend last year, and it is just so senseless, and painful. And so important to keep talking about.
ReplyDeleteMeg, a very honest and heartfelt post, thank you for sharing it. With your infectious love of life and people, it's hard to believe you've faced such tragedy. My heart goes out to you and your family. May others who are down in their lives find the strength to keep on going. -Amanda

ReplyDeleteOh, Meg, I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. But I thank you for using your tough experience to encourage others and for the way you spread your positivity around all the time. You're so sweet and strong and amazing, and I'm glad I've gotten to know you a bit, even if only on the internets (for now)!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. It must have been hard to post but so appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this, we had a suicide in the family very recently - a truely horrific phone call to recieve, completely bewildering and heartbreaking.
ReplyDelete<< hugs >> Thanks for posting this. I had a friend in high school commit suicide as well, and struggled with depression for a few years before coming to terms with it and learning to live. Our prayers go out to your brother.
